Guitarist and composer Arturo Martinez, the bandleader of Espiritu Gitano, was drawn to flamenco in Spain because of its Gypsy, Arab and Jewish influences and has been a noted figure in the New York flamenco scene since the 1980s. He has accompanied such famous artists as Jose Molina, Jose Greco, Chuni Amaya, Joaquin Fajardo, Concha Vargas, as well as Maria Alba, Pilar Rioja and Andrea Del Conte. His program is rooted in the Andalusian Gypsy tradition and is inspired by various traditions, including North African, Hispanic-American, and jazz. The evening features Martinez on guitar alongside a stellar collective of instrumentalist, dancers and vocalists.
